School Property Photography Competition 2026

Brought to you by the Hynds Foundation and Frankie

Through the Lens: Announcing the School Property Photography Competition!

Have you ever stopped to look at the angles of your school library when the afternoon sun hits it? Or noticed how the School property teams get everything ready for Saturday rugby games or big prizegiving events?

Every day, we walk past incredible structures, unique spaces, and architectural marvels. But we know that Kiwi students see the world differently. That’s why we are incredibly excited to launch the School Property Photography Competition!

Whether you’re a seasoned photography enthusiast or just someone who loves taking quick snaps on your phone, this competition is your chance to showcase your creative eye and win some amazing prizes for yourself and your school.

What Exactly is "School Property Photography"?

Landscape and portrait photography is the foundation of Modern Art.

It’s about architecture, spaces, shapes, lines, emotion, passion, teamwork, and the places we live, learn, and play.

Your entry could be:

  • Your School Campus: A cool angle of the gym, the reflection in the science lab windows, or the texture of the old playground.
  • The People and teams: a compelling portrait of one of the Property team or a contractor (please ensure you get permission from them before submitting)

Pro Tip: You don’t need a thousand-dollar DSLR camera to win. Some of the most breathtaking photos are taken on a standard smartphone. It’s all about lighting, composition, and your unique perspective!

Why You Should Enter

Aside from the ultimate bragging rights of being named one of NZ's top young photographers, there are plenty of reasons to get involved:

  • Epic Prizes: We have thousands of dollars worth of prizes up for grabs, including gear for the winning students and funding to support the creative arts department at your school.
  • Get Discovered: Winning and shortlisted entries will be featured in our digital gallery and viewed by industry professionals.
  • It’s Free and Fun: There are no entry fees, and it’s a great excuse to get outside, explore your surroundings, and try something new.

Competition Categories

To keep things fair, the competition is broken down into three school levels:

  1. Primary (Years 1–6)
  2. Intermediate (Years 7–8) and Secondary (Years 9–13)

Each category will have a 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

Judging Criteria

Art is inherently subjective and every photo submitted should be celebrated.

The judging criteria for the competition is the following -
